This is what I define as great Art, such a simple image, created in such a complex way, the pose and possision are just devine, this screams at me, I want to hug her, I feel her pain. I know just like the person that she is telling to go, that I cannot help..... This image is exactly why I love queeky, thank you for creating this and sharing it also!

What I have modified from the original photo to make my painting:

I reframed the painting to leave a lot more empty space on the top left of the painting. This is to increase the sense of being belittled, lonely, and helpless, of a lost, insignificant human being (i.e. the way she felt about herself in the painting).

I also emphasized on the anatomy and shadowing of the hands to enhance the sense of withdrawn, wanting to be left alone. In general, figure paintings rely on poses for aesthetic values, but for this painting, the pose is simple. Therefore, I wanted these hands to stand out to improve the aesthetics of the painting.
