Faces by N88
“Well, I still exist. I know I havent been on very often, but I will try to post more often. I was feeling a bit stumped today, so I thought id brush up on (and also) share my knowledge of drawing faces. I hope this is helpful to beginner and intermediate artists out there... Maybe even some experts can find something useful in here too. As is my style, the imagery is accompannied by text commentary as it goes. Preferably you should watch it at a speed of 10 and it will run for about 4 minutes and 18 seconds. Enjoy!”

Every artist was first an amateur.
A nice
tutorial, enadiate. Thank you very much.
I watched it!
This is the very helpful tutorial and also fun to watch. Thanks for creating this video for us. This makes me look at the mirror and divide my face into proportion.
My understanding is, this is the template for the face and the face will be varied by slightly adjusting the scale of the organs. This will help me when I have to draw the difficult angle...like....worm eye view, bird eye view.

Me? Nahh...... Nothing like that. It was just my bordom. Anyways, I have a plan on the next drawing but I have to finish something first.
It is an admittedly basic template
Yeah, I took long enough to make just the basics, but the ideas are sound. These proportions are completely average or generic and are more or less suggestions for making an aesthetically-pleasing human face. However, as with most things creative, you need to understand the reality of your subject before you can exaggerate those aspects in a satisfying way. Altering these proportions slightly has a profound effect on how a face reads. For example, if you were to move the lines a bit so that the forehead is smaller and the chin/jaw is larger, your character might not look very intelligent. and if you were to do the reverse, your character might look young and innocent. I've also noticed that longer noses make a character seem untrustworthy. I think my next tut will cover facial anatomy and expression, which is something I've studied a decent amount.
Unfortunately, I am in the middle of a huge top secret project that I can't really say much about, which also dominates nearly all of my free-time. I'll try and post something new soon!

yay thanks!
I appreciae it. I find that most tuts on this site are typically no different from regular submission with no real guidance. I'm definitely going to do more like this.
