I think one of the key things in painting icicles is getting the background colouring right - neither too dark or too light - because the ice shows up because of it's edges and they are only there from the light/shadow around it ... not sure that makes sense. I tried to draw some more and didn't get as good an outcome because the background didn't seem to work as well ...

First snow. Now ice. They're both great. It looks so beautiful hanging like that. But I have the feeling that I want to reach for it and make it my ice sword or at least taste it.
I am really touched by your warm comments ... another happy accident though - I erased much of the colour I had blended in with a very soft eraser to get that transparent feel ...
