Yeah, it's fun to play around different tools in different style.
You might try to use a low opacity in the fill option, say 24% on bright bg such as white and around 10% if you work on a dark bg, and overlap shape by shape. Is kind of a way to work in coreldraw. I used this method on my early work here, hope this can help on your drawing. Enjoy!
