What are you talking about, your work looks great and you do it pretty fast as well, just different style
Anyway my approach right now is like my drawing teacher said in school - do large shapes first, and then come with another pass for details, then another pass - more details, and so on, and stop when you want, when you think you have enough.
If you want to try this way I would recommend start with a very large brush at first, get all the paper colored, put all the large shapes in first, and then get a smaller brush for details.
It's more like painting, less like drawing in color
